Reports of Tremor Activity Monitoring System (TAMS)

The following is an automatic report generated by the Tremor Activity Monitoring System (TAMS). TAMS station distribution in Vancouver Island is shown in the map. For each day, some or all of the stations are used used in TAMS analysis to generate the report.

The following table is a summary of the seismic activity observed in the region of Vancouver Island and the coastal region of lower BC.

By default, the most recent TAMS report is displayed. Users can specifiy a specific date of interest by giving it in the box below.

Please download the file if a text version of TAMS report is needed.

TAMS Report in Text for Day 2015-05-05

The tables below display the tremor activities in the previous 24 hours period or in 24 hours of any other day specified by the user.

Explanation for the Tables:

Four different activities are classified:

  • CT = coherent tremor activity (i.e., coherent tremor signals are found at more than 3 nearby stations)
  • r = random tremor bursts
  • s = spikes or earthquake-like activity
  • n = background noise
  • x = waveform data not available

Each line represents one station. Different columns correspond to different hours (from 00 to 23). The four numbers at the end of each station are the number of hours showing each class of activity.

Stations are grouped into three tables divided by regions:

  • Southern Vancouver Island
  • Middle Vancouver Island
  • Northern Vancouver Island

TAMS activities recorded at stations in each region are charted in a table shown below. The last row of the table is the summary line. An asterisk (*) is marked if that hour is considered as a tremor hour (i.e., having at least 3 stations classified as CT). Otherwise, a dash (-) is marked. The last number of a region's summary line gives the number of asterisks.
