Help on searching the National Earthquake Database
- The earliest earthquake on record occurred in 1568.
- Years must be entered as 4-digit numbers (eg., 2003, not 03).
- If both date fields are left blank, they default to 14 days from today.

If either date field is left blank, it defaults to 14 days from the date specified in the other date field.

If the hour and minute fields are left blank, they default to 00:00, i.e., midnight.

The latitude, longitude and magnitude fields will assume the default values unless changed.

The longitude is negative for Canada.
The following is an example of a common database search request.
Request for all earthquakes in southern British Columbia between June and
July of 1994 with a magnitude greater that 4.
The user would input the following parameters: (Please note the negative values for min and max longitude)
- Start Date: 1994-06-01 00:00
- End Date: 1994-08-01 23:59
- Latitude: from 50.0 to 55.0
- Longitude: from -130.0 to -125.0
